This place is truly one of a kind. If you find yourself on Daufuskie Island ... You must visit Marshside Mamas. It is definitely a dive.. But we have never had better Po boys! Don't come here if you're in a rush... But enjoy the experience!

Recommended based on the delicious food, friendly staff and fun atmosphere. Pull up in your golf cart and get ready to fill your belly with some seafood and booze. Play some corn joke or Bimini ring and pet the friendly bulldog. Sign a dollar bill and have it posted to be seen by other patrons forever. I enjoyed their Shrimp Burger which contains fresh local shrimp, ground raw, formed into a patty and then cooked to perfection. My wife could not finish her grilled Mahi sandwich because the piece of fish was large enough for two. There is a full bar and a selection of bottle beer that includes the big 3 domestics, Corona, Heineken and Sierra Nevada. There was a small problem with the beer not being iced in time for their 12:00 opening on a Saturday. There is a playground that sits a few feet from the outdoor seating for the kids. Interestingly enough, the restaurant does not provide high chairs though. The staff was very friendly and knowledgable, but appeared to need a little more help on a busy Saturday. Overall a fun place to hang out, eat and have some drinks.

Thanks for having the old school horn and Beth! The beat seafood in S.C! The grouper sandwich is PHENOMENAL. My wife loved her crab legs. Peel and eat shrimp. Yum.

The restaurant isn't glamorous however the food exceeded my family and my expectations! The fried grouper with grits are amazing! Pull and peel shrimp and glazed pork chops. Yummy. Highly recommended!!!

When you first arrive you wonder where in the world are you? When you leave you just say where have you been. The food is fantastic, the burgers are the best we have had and we love to dine. There is no finer place to eat. The chef is a gem each and every time we go back we feel so welcome by everyone including the friendly furry ones. If you have the chance do not miss out on one of the best dining experiences in the south.

If you're fortunate enough to find yourself in the neighborhood of Daufuskie Island, accessible by boat only, from Hilton Head, Savannah and other coastal SC and GA coastal towns, you should navigate to Marshside Mama's. Good times have come and gone and come again on Daufuskie Island in recent years, but this ramshackled emporium of good food has stood the test of time. You can choose to eat inside the one-room, tin-roofed structure or outside at the myriad of ragtag tables and chairs; either way you'll have access to a full bar, a great group of servers and a dog or two that acts as host. Several in our party have been coming to this place since the mid-90's and can attest to the fact that nothing much has changed. The food is consistently very good, as it could compete with just about anywhere in HH, and the atmosphere is somewhere between Key West, Bermuda and the B.V.I.; laid back to the hilt; without pretense even though the person next to you at the bar could be a multi-millionaire. At any moment Jimmy Buffett might land his seaplane in the adjacent waters and amble up for a signature rum drink and to play a tune or two. On our most recent visit, we ordered the 4-cheese pimento spread, the scallop and black bean special, the Daufuskie Devil platter and the Voodo pasta. This particular neck-of-the-woods prides itself in Pimento cheese and Mama's may have some of the best. First and foremost, it tastes great but even just as important, its consistency makes for easy dipping with the ample supply of round corn tortilla chips. The large portion is easily enough for four hungry dinners. The scallop and black bean special was 5 or 6 plump, perfectly seared scallops served with spicy black bean cakes with a touch of corn. The dish was spicy but not overly so. Both persons who ordered this dish, cleaned their plates. The Devil platter consisted of a large portion of boiled, peel-n-eat shrimp, two good-sized deviled crabs and a fragrant, saffron rice. The shrimp and rice were perfectly cooked but the crab were prepared to steamy perfection. It contained just enough bread crumbs and binder to hold the crab together by the forkful without taking away any of the rich crab taste. Lastly, the Voodo pasta was a spicy, Cajun, concoction of shrimp, chicken, artichoke hearts and tomatoes served in a cream sauce over farfalle pasta with grated cheese. In a word, it was excellent and a huge portion to boot! All of the entrees come with a very good green salad that is dressed with a Vidalia onion dressing. There are no desserts at Marshside Mama's, "Only White Russians," as our waitress said. That's of no matter as you'll be full from the good food and good times.

Located in Hilton Head,SC, this restaurants, and I use the term loosely, was an absolute diamond in the ruff. The atmosphere was like a backwoods slack jawwed yocal hootinanny. Visually nausiating.BUT... The food was absolutely AWESOME!! It came highly recommended, so when the boat docked and we started walking up to it,we were all like,"oh hell NO!" Trust me on this instance, looks are completely deceiving!! The Black Bean soup was phenominal! 2 friends got the shrimp and grits, came with scallops.Said the scallops were perfect, sweet, the shrimp were tasty but alil overcooked. 2 other friends got the bone-in Grilled Porkchop with Prailine glaze and mash potatoes. The chops were HUGE!! Perfectly cooked on the grill, glaze was sooo good. The BBQ baby back ribs were amazing.again,HUGE portion, couldn't finish, but did so the next day. Giant salad bowl for the table to share dressed with a sweet vidalia onion dressing. I will most definately go back!!!! Sooo good.....but I will take a mosquito net to keep the flies away. They do provide bug spray for everyone, but the flys are crazy big and annoying. Final word.....just GO...its worth it!!!!

Oh Marshside Mama's...let me count the ways! You look like moose droppings but taste like moose tracks. When I first arrived at your shack, I wanted to yell Yeehaw and start whistlin Dixie after I chambered a couple rounds to shoot in the air. Your food is incredibly good! Perfectly seasoned and perfectly grilled, I couldn't have asked for more. I've never been to a restaurant that had a huge pig lying outside, nor have I been to a restaurant that kind of looks like it was decorated like a trailer park. This place is not on Hilton Head Island, it is on Daufuskie Island...the southernmost tip of South Carolina. The island is the setting for Pat Conroy's book "The Water is Wide" which was adapted into a movie called "Conrack". Unless you have a boat, you will need to take a 45 minute ferry ride to Daufuskie Island (you will have dolphins jumping in your wake on the way there). Marshside Mama's is a great adventure with great food! I was lucky enough to try a few dishes since I was married on the island. Try: Everything you can Avoid: Going if you are prissy and proper

One of a kind dive and out if this world cool! Words are hard to find to describe. Shabby comfort this place. Ideal for a family hop, skip and jump over from Hilton Head. Check the times they are open before you go. I think a boat can pull right up to the dock. They often have live music. Like nothing you have likely ever seen before!
